Event description:

“The New Public” is an acclaimed documentary that provides a window into starting a school by following the founders of Brooklyn Community Arts and Media high school, a New York City small public school. By following students, parents and educators over the school’s first four years, the film documents a community working to realize their vision of an empowered student-centered school alongside the educational reality of the opportunity gap. The film engages with what an innovative school community can and cannot fix. After the screening, producer Andrea Miller will discuss the film and the broader work of creating educational documentaries.
