A Historic Gift in Support of Yale Education Studies

April 26, 2022

Dear Education Studies Students, Colleagues, Alumni and Friends,

We are honored to announce a gift of $2.5 million from an anonymous donor. This gift is the largest in the history of Yale’s Education Studies program. This donation comes at an important time when the Education Studies program has doubled its undergraduate enrollment and is working to support Yale students pursuing careers in education, a critical task in the middle of pandemic-related educational challenges. Ninety percent of recent Education Studies alumni pursue jobs in education after graduating.

Faculty Director Grace Kao writes, “We are grateful for the generosity of this donor. Their vote of confidence in our program means so much to us, and we look forward to the next phase of Education Studies at Yale.”  Executive Director Mira Debs adds that “This gift honors the hundreds of Yale alumni educators who are making a difference every day in their classrooms. It helps us train the next generation of Yale students working in education and attract students and faculty to Yale’s Education Studies community.”

Since 2013, the Education Studies program has supported Yale undergraduates studying education research, policy, and practice across the liberal arts. We have benefitted from the support of The Endeavor Foundation, The Stavros Niarchos Foundation, The Solotar Family Fund, The Charles Hirschler and Ruth Streeter Fund, and many others.

We are grateful for the generosity of this gift and the opportunity to continue growing Education Studies at Yale.

Yours sincerely,

Grace Kao, Faculty Director
Mira Debs, Executive Director
