
Lauren Carpenter is the Associate Director and Lecturer in the Education Studies Program at Yale. In this role, she upholds the program’s mission of providing interdisciplinary education in theory, policy, and pedagogy and supports students as they pursue the Education Studies Certificate and Scholar Intensive Certificate.
Carpenter is currently completing a Doctor of Education degree in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University. She also holds an Ed. M. in TESOL from Teachers College, an M.S. in TESOL from the City College of New York, and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Connecticut. Her research focuses on classroom discourse and teacher-student interaction, with publications in journals such as Classroom Discourse and contributions to volumes on language education. Her dissertation research examines the effectiveness of engaging pre-service teachers in micro-reflective analyses of their video-recorded classroom interactions as part of the clinical supervision cycle.
Previously, Carpenter served as the Director of Education Programs at Albertus Magnus College, where she oversaw teacher preparation programs, including undergraduate and post-baccalaureate certification tracks, as well as advanced training for reading specialists and STEM educators.
With a background in teaching English as a Second Language in New York City public schools, Carpenter brings both practical classroom experience and scholarly insight to her work in higher education. Her teaching and research bridge educational theory and practice, with the goal of preparing future educators and researchers for meaningful and impactful careers.
