Scholar Intensive Certificate

The Education Studies Scholar Intensive Certificate is ideal for students with extensive curricular, practice, and research interests in education who want to commit a substantial amount of their time at Yale focused on developing a senior capstone project in education. The Scholar Intensive is application-based and capped at a seminar size to facilitate advising and community learning. 

Scholar Intensive Certificate Requirements

5 course credits, including

  • EDST 1110 Foundations in Education Studies
  • EDST 1261 seminar for new scholars (Sophomore Spring, Theory and Research requirement)
  • One EDST course in either:
  • EDST 4400 Senior Capstone I (Junior Spring)
  • EDST 4410 Senior Capstone II (Senior Fall)
  • A Field Experience, completed before or after acceptance into the cohort

  • Following Yale guidelines about combining programs, Yale students may participate in a total of 3 academic programs including majors and certificates. For additional program information, see the Yale College Program of Study.
  • Scholar Intensive Certificate requirements changed in Fall 2025. Students who enrolled in the Scholar Intensive Certificate prior to fall 2025 may opt into the new requirements by completing this form
