New Haven Partner Teachers Program

New Haven Public School teachers in Partner Teachers Program

The Yale Education Studies Partner Teachers Program is a professional development opportunity for New Haven Public School teachers to collaborate with Education Studies professors, and bring Yale students into their classrooms for observation and collaboration.

Each spring, Yale Education Studies seeks dynamic New Haven high school teachers who are interested in reflecting on their pedagogical practices to apply for this professional development opportunity.

In the fall, New Haven Partner Teachers host students from EDST 110 (Foundations in Education Studies) for classroom observations. These one-time visits allow undergraduates to connect course learnings about education research, theory, and policy to day-to-day life in the classroom. In addition, undergraduates will have the opportunity to debrief with their Partner Teacher about their approach to the profession.

In the spring, Partner teachers collaborate with students taking a seminar on Effective Secondary Teaching who are interested in careers in teaching. After multiple observations in their Partner Teacher’s classroom throughout the spring semester, Yale students design and teach a lesson with their Partner Teacher’s guidance.

Through this collaboration, New Haven Partner Teachers have the opportunity to reflect on their practice and develop future teachers, network with fellow New Haven public school teachers, and join Yale Education Studies community events.
