Gabriella Cohen ('27)

Meet Gabriella Cohen (she/her), a sophomore in Silliman College from Portland, Oregon. Gabriella plans to major in Anthropology with a certificate in Intensive Education Studies. Her interest in Education Studies are “deeply rooted” in the varied educational experiences in three different cities—Oklahoma City, Chicago, and Portland. Witnessing firsthand “how funding mechanisms, community attitudes toward education, and local cultures can profoundly shape the student experience” ignited Gabriella’s interest in several topics in education studies.
Whether those topics are Indigenous and nature-centered pedagogies or the role of home culture on student success, Gabriella feels grateful to talk about her interests with the Education Studies community. For Gabriella, there is a strong sense of belonging within the community, who she describes as “some of the most kind-hearted, inquisitive, and vibrant individuals at Yale.” Embarking on a reflective journey with this community leads her to learn from and share her own educational experiences.
