Lynn Lee is multifaceted—the Saybrook College Senior is from Hong Kong and Seoul, studying History, and pursuing two certificates in Chinese and Education Studies. In many ways, her deep curiosity about diverse perspectives and learning landscapes is what drew Lynn to Education Studies “I love how Ed Studies brings together people from all disciplines,” Lynn reflects, “[and how] these specialisations impact the way [we] contribute in the classroom.”

Each of these classroom experiences has broadened her view of educational possibilities and enriched her identity as an international student. In Dr. Debs “Comparative International Education” course, Lynn began to think about what education can look like outside Western frameworks. “I appreciated learning how different nations approach education for nation building and how they incorporate Indigenous learning practices.” Her coursework not only brings these global perspectives to life but also prompts her to examine her own journey. “I was able to tie [these teachings] back to my historical interests and my experience studying abroad in Taiwan, which I found incredibly meaningful.”

After teaching at New Haven Public Schools and volunteering at the New Haven Free Public Library, Lynn has crystallized her passion: advocating for early childhood education. Over the summer, Lynn found herself interning for All Our Kin, a New Haven-based nonprofit seeking to train, support, and sustain family child care providers—also founded by Janna Wagner and Jessica Sager, the same professors who first ignited her passion for education policy in her “Child Care, Society, and Public Policy” course. Looking forward, Lynn hopes to leverage her global perspective, historical insights, and passion for non-traditional pedagogy to advocate for “accessible, inclusive, and empowering early childhood education practices in Hong Kong or the United States.”
